  • Favorite Destinations for the Month of May

For many of you travelers up there, the month of May might represent just a mild prelude to the exuberance of summer. But in fact, May is the most privileged month, as it takes the best out of both seasons: the weather is warm enough to make you go outside, yet it doesn’t reach unbearable limits; the jasmine-infused nights are simply ravishing and, to add the cherry on top, this is a time when some wonderful events are taking place all over the world.

This being said, May might be the perfect moment to pack your bags and take off; with so many things going on, almost every destination you pick will reward you with lots of fun and perfect weather. However, in case nothing comes to your mind, feel free to take a look at out picks for May 2010:

As most of you already know, the beginning of May represents a very special time for the Mexican people: remembering the courage of a handful of Mexican soldiers who fought against the French troops during the Battle of Puebla represents a perfect opportunity to show the whole world what Mexico is all about. The Cinco the Mayo manifestations, featuring  traditional dances and costumes, parades, contests and the notorious piñatas, reach their peak at nightfall, when the firework show is accompanies by the classical shout: ‘Viva Mexico!’

Admire an English garden in Chelsea

The RHS Chelsea Flower Show in London is probably the most anticipated event of such kind during the whole year.  (If you are curious what RHS stands for, it’s quite a simple one: the Royal Horticultural Society) The gardeners of Chelsea have taken the art of growing flowers and decorating gardens to such a degree, that this annual show is now a trend-setting event for the whole world. This year’s edition is going to be held at the Royal Chelsea Hospital between 25 and 29 of May, so hurry up if you want to get a seat, as most tickets are already sold.

    Watch a movie at Cannes

The middle of May is when Cannes beaches and hotels become overcrowded with film buffs, critics and top rated movie stars. The festival of Cannes is for the movie industry what the Oscars are for Hollywood: a privileged to celebrate this wonderful invention, salute aspiring stars, bring a homage to the elders and, of course, show up on the red carpet, all dressed up and ready to pose. With this year’s jury presided by the extravagant Tim Burton, we’re all curious how things will turn out…

    Spring symphony in Prague

The 65th edition of the Prague Spring International Music Festival will debut on the 12th of May. During the 3 weeks of concerts, contests and jam sessions, Prague’s theaters and opera houses will host the most talented singers, orchestras and conductors in Europe. Not to mention that the city pf Prague is particularity charming during spring, when its picturesque streets are animated by street musicians and performers.

    Befriend an elephant in Kenya

With all those magnificent animals running wild through the bush and an incredible mix of cultures, Kenya has all the chances the become much more then a nice country to visit: it is more like a life altering experience. In case you don’t feel ready to climb all the way up to Kilimanjaro or take a ride among leopards and buffalo herds, just head for the lively Mombasa – its lovely beaches at the Indian Ocean will energize you for the whole summer.
