  • The best music festivals in the US

For decades, music festivals have entertained music fans everywhere by offering them a place where they could gather at least once a year, listen to their favorite bands, dance and just generally feel free. There are literally hundreds of music festivals in the US, some of them focusing on only one genre of music, others mixing everything and drawing huge crowds.

But it’s not just the music that counts at a music festival – it’s also the general feel, the rest of the activities, and the number of people attending. So if you’re ready to have a blast, here are some of the best music festivals in the US.

    Lollapalooza, Chicago, Illinois

Lollapalooza is one of the largest and most popular rock music festivals in the US, and it’s dating way back to the 90’s. It was founded by the lead singer of Jane’s Addiction, and it used to be a traveling festivals were you could listen to up and coming alternative bands.

Today, Lollapalooza is a weekend festival held in Grant Park (this year between August 5 and 7). The profile of the festival also changed, and it became much more eclectic and appealing to more than die hard rock fans.

    Summerfest, Milwaukee, Wisconsin

Summerfest  is also known as the Big Gig – no surprise seeing as it lasts for 11 days and is attended by around 700-800 bands. In 1999, it was officially the largest music festival in the world, and today is attracting close to 1.000.000 people. A variety of genres are featured at the festival, and the line-up features both locally and internationally known artists.

    Bonnaroo, Manchester, Tennessee

Bonnaroo is not only of the the biggest music events in the US, but it is also one of those festivals that can appeal to anyone, regardless of their musical preferences.

Bonnaroo lasts for four days, and it has quite a few stages where indie rock, world music, hip hop, jazz, americana, bluegrass, country music, folk, gospel, reggae, electronica are featured. Plus, there are tons of other activities to do during the festival.

    Pitchfork Music Festival, Chicago, Illinois

Pitchfork Magazine is already known to be the Bible of alternative music, and that’s pretty much the case with the festival as well. Alternative bands from all over the US and the world congregate at this event. It’s  a great opportunity to discover bands you’ve never heard of.

    Voodoo Experience, New Orleans

Voodoo Experience is just as unusual and eclectic as its name suggests. This festival (which is taking place at Halloween, fittingly enough), brings together big names from the music industry, as well as up and coming bands. And seeing as it’s taking place in New Orleans, you can be sure you’ll have a great time.
