  • Backpacking Europe: Party-Goer’s Guide to European Cities

    Prague

    Prague

As part of our “Backpacking Europe”  series we’ve so far seen what a backpacker can visit and where he/she could spend the night for little money. Backpacking can be quite a demanding activity, but this is no reason to abandon any plans of going out and spend most of the night sleeping; you risk depriving yourself from all the fun and possible friends that are usually part of such an experience!

Europe is not all about art and historical monuments: there are many party people who are traveling all around Europe in search for the best nightlife just as there are cities whose bars and clubs have become their biggest attraction. Many of you might find today’s list to be quite predictable, but omitting the following cities from such an article would be an unforgivable sin:

    Krakow

The rivalry between Poland’s current (Warsaw) and old capital (Krakow) is legendary: however, when it comes to partying, Krakow’s energizing atmosphere has no rival. Most Krakow bars are located along the few picturesque streets that form the city’s old center (Stare Miasto), so it shouldn’t be too hard to find the one that fits your tastes and cravings. For a more relaxed, bohemian atmosphere, you can try some hidden cafe in Krakow’s Jewish district (Kazimierz).

    Prague

Untouched by the heavy bombings that have devastated half a Europe during World War II, rediscovered by Westerners in the early 90s and unofficially crowned as the ultimate stag party destination, Prague has only one requirement when it comes to partying: be ready to taste the best beer in Europe. Popular pubs include Hapu, Confessions, Double Trouble, Blind Eye or Cerny Petr.

    London

Just as many English party goers are heading for Eastern Europe in search of novelty and smaller prices, the rest of Europe would give anything to get a taste of London’s notorious pubs. London clubs can be really posh and exclusive, but let us bear in mind that we are talking about some world-famous bars like The Establishment, Albanach, Hawkmoor or Lost Society.

If you are looking for a less formal atmosphere, just check the dozens of bars that stretch along the Thames: in a busy afternoon, the quays of Thames are fully packed with cheerful lads, who like standing in small groups and chat around a pint.

    Berlin

With its cosmopolitan establishments and state-of-the art clubs, Berlin is the club goer’s nirvana. Nothing that you ever seen in term of electro music and DJ parties can outmatch Berlin’s music scene (if you were tempted to say Ibiza, think again). If you ever visited Berlin and names like Steinhaus Berlin, Matrix, 40seconds or Berghein don’t tell you anything, then only second visit can spare you the embarrassment.

    Madrid

No European nation could ever party like the Spanish: just about anyone who ever set a foot in a Spanish bar will confirm it. Madrid is famous for its long partying hours, tapas (snack bars) and botellons (some kind of street party in which people gather in small groups and drink alcohol).

Unlike other European cities, Madrid has several club districts that turn on their multicolored lights and switch on the party mode as soon as the sun sets: Plaza Mayor, Huertas, Castellana and Alonzo Martines are probably the most popular of them.

And where is Belgrade? If you didn’t include it in here is probably because you will need to visit http://www.thebelgradepubcrawl.com and elaborate a second article after having a taste of Eastern Europe Nightlife :) Cya!
